T4A or NR4

T4A or NR4

A T4A (NR4 for non-residents of Canada) is a tax slip needed when filing your income taxes. It shows your total pension payments and income tax deducted for the previous year.

CSSB sends tax slips (T4As or NR4s) to pension recipients. They are sent online in January or by mail in February.

If you’ve signed up for Online Services, we’ll email you when your T4A or NR4 is ready in your account. Using Online Services you can access your tax slip earlier and you can print copies at your convenience.

How to get your T4A or NR4 online:

  • Sign in to Online Services
  • Go to Inbox (Document Centre) from the menu
  • Click the download icon next to the document
  • If the document doesn’t open automatically, check your downloads folder

NOTE: If you get your tax slip online before we mail them in mid-February, we won’t send you a paper copy.

Please keep your mailing address up to date through Online Services or by contacting CSSB. If mail is returned, we will try to contact you and update your information. Pension payments may stop if we can’t reach you.

In Online Services, you can easily adjust the amount of income tax deducted from your monthly pension.

Here are your options:

  • Set the tax so your payment after all deductions equals a specific amount
  • Change the tax by a specific dollar amount (coming soon!)
  • Adjust the tax to a certain percentage of your payment
  • You have other income that, combined with your pension, puts you in a higher tax bracket.
  • You want to avoid owing money to the Canada Revenue Agency at the end of the year.

You can request additional tax deductions in writing or by completing and sending CSSB a new TD1.

When making a written request, please include:

  • Full name
  • PIN
  • Amount of additional tax to deduct

The minimum tax deduction is based on the TD1 form you completed. You can reduce or eliminate the minimum by updating your TD1.
