Retroactive Salary Increases

The recent ratification of several collective agreements in the Province is expected to result in retroactive salary increases for many members in the plan. A retroactive salary adjustment may increase your pension if it increases your Best Five Year Average Pensionable Salary. Salary for pension purposes is defined in The Civil Service Superannuation Act and generally includes your regular remuneration (with any eligible vacation cash-out) and excludes anything else that does not form part of your regular remuneration. Regular remuneration is typically determined by the employer and may be defined in a collective agreement or employment contract. If a retroactive increase is considered by the employer as pensionable salary, the employer will deduct pension contributions and report that salary to the CSSB. Update on Proposed Plan Changes

Proposed changes to eliminate the Old Age Security Integration option and simplify pension application deadlines after 2015 did not pass before the Legislative Assembly recessed in early December. Members can contact the Liaison Committee if wanting to determine whether that committee has any updates on the status of these potential changes. Welcome to the new and improved CSSB Website! The website has been redesigned to improve user-friendliness and appeal. Along with the changed design and layout, many new pages have been added to assist members in finding relevant information and answering some frequently asked questions. Complete Your Retirement Forms Online

Eligible employees may now complete their retirement forms online when signed into their CSSB Online Services account. This feature gives employees the option of printing their completed forms for signature and submission to the CSSB office, or having us print the completed forms and mailing them to the member for signature and submission. Automatic edits in the online process help reduce potential problems and errors. Employees are welcome to contact the CSSB office for assistance completing their forms, or with any questions they may have.
